At this month’s SEE alumni meetup, members gathered at Filmhouse Cinema for a masterclass led by Jan Harlan - Stanley Kubrick’s long-time producer - as part of the Edinburgh Short Film Festival.

In addition to his work as Kubrick’s producer, Jan also served as his researcher and directed the acclaimed documentary Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures. The two-hour masterclass delved into filmmaking principles central to directors like Kubrick and Spielberg.

Aimed especially at young and aspiring filmmakers, the session offered a rare opportunity for Scottish creatives to gain valuable insights from Jan’s experiences working closely with two of cinema’s most influential figures, helping to inspire and inform their own film projects.

The SEE alumni thoroughly enjoyed this experience and left with valuable advice and knowledge!
